Debunking 5 Myths about Aesthetic Treatments

There is a lot of information out there about aesthetic treatments which can be pretty overwhelming.
We know you have questions, so we’re here to address the 5 most common myths about facial aesthetic treatments!

Myth 1: Aesthetic treatments make my face look unnatural

While there are individuals who have an “overfilled” look, that is often a result of poor treatment planning.

Typically, a professional aesthetic doctor would assess your beauty and skin needs, understand your aesthetic goals before curating a personalised treatment plan that uses the appropriate products and dosages. They would also adjust the intervals between treatments for optimal treatment results.

Thus, it is always important to consult an experienced professional and do your research before any treatment.

Myth 2: Dermal fillers will leave my face saggier when it wears off

Dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid fillers will be naturally broken down by your body and the effects will gradually wear off. Hence, your skin condition will be back at where you started.

In fact, a number of studies have shown that hyaluronic acid dermal fillers boost moisture levels, which provide long-term benefits such as keeping your skin hydrated and plump even after the fillers have been completely metabolised.

Myth 3: Applying collagen-plumping skincare is sufficient

Application of collagen-plumping skin care products has minimal benefits. Collagen molecules are too large to penetrate the surface of the skin when applied topically. Yes, that means all that precious collagen remains on the surface of your skin until you’re ready to wash it off.

Collagen levels in your skin decrease with age and, unfortunately, there is no way to stop this. However, aesthetic treatments like calcium hydroxylapatite dermal fillers and micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation (MFU-V) treatment can stimulate new collagen production in your skin.

Myth 4: Aesthetic treatments are painful with a long downtime

While we have different pain tolerance levels, aesthetic treatments today are much more comfortable than before. Aesthetic doctors ease any discomfort in a few ways such as application of a numbing cream, use of a vibration anaesthesia device or oral painkillers. Not to mention, these procedures also have little to no downtime with some patients undergoing treatments during their lunch hour!

Myth 5: Aesthetic treatments are dangerous and harmful

Aesthetic treatments are safe but not getting treated by a professional is harmful and can be dangerous. That is why it is critical to ensure you are going to a certified clinic with authentic products that are being administered by a professional doctor.

Another way to ensure that treatments are safe is to check if it has been FDA-approved or FDA-cleared. These help to indicate that the treatments are backed by robust clinical trials, and deemed to be safe and effective by health authorities.
